Big Show in NY

I am heading to NY next week for a few days of art gawking--I will happily report back all that is seen and heard. I saw the last Greater New York show. It was huge, discursive, wonderful and awful. Let's hope for more of the same this time!

Check out the slide show at PS1. You can see work from the new Greater New York 2005 show:

(press release) MARCH 13 - SEPTEMBER 26, 2005

(Long Island City, New York, February, 2005) Greater New York 2005, jointly organized by P.S.1 and The Museum of Modern Art, will go on view at P.S.1 on March 13,2005 showcasing more than 160 artists from the New York area. This exhibition builds from the spirit of its first incarnation, Greater New York, which opened at P.S.1 in 2000, shortly after the two institutions became affiliated.

Greater New York 2005 presents artists who have emerged since 2000. Their work explores both this specific time period, during which New York City has changed dramatically; shows vitality, energy, and exciting promise; and anticipates new artistic directions. The exhibition includes artists from New York's five boroughs, as well as nearby towns in New Jersey.

The Hammer This Week

Two lectures this week at the Hammer. David Byrne on Wednesday, Matthew Barney on Thursday. Would anyone like to write about either talk?

Thursday at 6pm before the Matthew Barney lecture, a few artists from "Thing" are speaking: Lauren Bon, Krysten Cunningham, and Michael O'Malley. O'Malley is a school friend, and a good speaker who always has an opinion. Should be good.
