lilacs at night

I am having a hard time photographing black paintings. I just need to invest in good lights for photography. This painting is part of a series of lilacs at night. I had a lilac tree outside my window when I was a kid. My window also looked out over the driveway, gas pump, barnyard and barns toward the west. I spent pretty much every night in spring and summer leaning out that window before going to sleep.

Georgia

I visited a friend in Savannah for a few days. While the heat made me melt at every moment, the trip was great. We stayed on Cumberland Island for a few days--a barrier island near the Florida border. It is mostly a federal parkland, tho there is a private inn where we stayed. We hiked in salt marshes, went kayaking, went to a beautiful beach and rode bikes around the island. We had to dress for dinner each night. (SO East-Coast) It was one of the nicest places I have ever visited. White deer, wild turkeys, wild horses, nesting sea turtles, beautiful shells on the beach, all manner of birds, dolphins, crabs everywhere, oysters---just great. And the oak trees? Beautiful. Actually, we spent most of the trip on Cumberland or thinking about it. We had a quick tour of Savannah proper (beautiful) and the Telfair museum where my friend works.

This is an untitled (so far) painting. It started as a study for how to paint lamb fur, but actually it is good without the lamb. This will turn into a bigger painting somehow. (12 x 12)
