Today is slightly better but it's only 11:30...
Sorry to hear about your bad experience in NYC. I loved that place (and that drink) when I was growing up. I still have great memories of it.

Hope the week is getting better.
I dragged myself to Serendipity's last fall. The owner was a total bitch, scuse the french. I say get a pint of Ciao Bella, Dulche de Leche and hunker down with a spoon.
