Today in LA ...

... Very, Very Wet.

AD.07.rain.lights.jpg

I kept thinking about Todd Hido's rainy images on the ride home - even though my commute is much less picturesque.

The Hammer Collects Photography!

... or, uh, photographs made by artists

P07234_9.jpg
Variable Piece No. 44 by Douglas Huebller (because I couldn't find an image of #43)

Saw this in the LA Times yesterday. It reminded me of a MAN post from about a month ago (see The MAN 2005 Acquisitions Series in side bar) Sounds like a nice gift and a good start. It'll be interesting to see how the Hammer goes about creating their new contemporary photo/wks on paper collection... can't wait to see those "Rooftops".

Dumb Blond Bond?

bondcraigPA_350x230.jpg

My cuz likes to poke fun at my fan girl crush on actor Daniel Craig. She couldn’t sit through The Mother and had no interest in Enduring Love, but she did request Layer Cake from Netflix. She admits she liked the gangster flick OK, but she just doesn’t get what I see in that “dorky British boy”. When Craig was named the new “younger, edgier Bond” and cast in the upcoming Casino Royale, she almost busted a gut laughing. Her exact words: “He is NOT James Bond!” still ring in my ears. Well, last night she was all too pleased to storm into my room with this sad tale. My British boy can act but I guess he’s too slow (or stupid?) to dodge a punch.

I still think he's cute, though.

Happy ValenTimes Day!

outkast.jpg

I don't get myself caught in the Jello jella,
And pudding pops that other opt to call falling in love but ...

I started a new temp job this week. It's not at all related to what I want to be doing but the lady I work for has tons of energy and she's really nice. Also, she laughs a lot. And when I say a lot, what I really mean is A LOT! Somehow she manages to laugh even when shit is going wrong. At first I thought she was a little, uh, nuts. Now I think she's just... happy. Go figure! It's nice and makes working with her really kind of fun.

All afternoon she kept wishing people a happy Valentimes Day. This kind of bugged me at first, but then the more she laughed the more I laughed. By 5pm I was in a startlingly good mood! So I hope everyone out there had a very happy Valentimes Day! Keep smiling. It really does make everything a little bit better!

…and don’t forget to have some chocolate!

routemap.gif

LA - Hartford - LA - Hartford - Vegas and .... Sacramento! OK, so it's not quite the international itinerary I always dreamed of, but at least I'm gettin' out of the house. Seriously though, it's been a very busy month. Double X is getting good local press and the freelance projects are steady. Now if I could only keep up with this blog ...

Robert Adams, Dead Palms, Partially Uprooted, Ontario, California, 1983

Related: Gallery Hopper has a few things to say about Adams. I will too, just as soon as I have another cup of coffee.
