WOW!

To quote from cinematical:
HOLY CRAP! Can I say that again? HOLY CRAP! Crash has just won best Picture.
I totally didn't expect that. Good movie, great performances but "Best Picture"? Really?! I totally thought the cowboy love story was going to sweep... Good thing I'm not a betting cat.
Truth be told, I'm not a big Oscar person, unless there is a big party goin' and the drinks are flowin' I'm not really that into it. I love watching movies and I like talking movies. But awards shows...not so much. They are simply too LOOOOOOONG. And having grown up on the east coast where you're held hostage in front of the tv till all hours of the night... Ugh!
But I always check in to see who won :)

I didn't catch Three Six's performance and like you, the best song usually puts me to sleep along with the accountants from Price Waterhouse.
I did think that Kathleen York looked familiar when she was singing the song from "Crash". I looked her up on imdb and she's the actress who plays Toby's ex-wife on "The West Wing". Ain't trivia grand?

Couldn't agree more... Last night's surprise was Crash but today's surprise was the totally extreme reactions people seemed to have re: best song. Some folks I know were totally embarrassed by the Three Six performance/award/acceptance speech, while others were like "Cool. Rap finally won an Oscar - About Time!" I have to admit I was pretty indifferent. I don't think I've cared about the best song category since the theme from "Arthur" beat out "Endless Love" in '81 (Lionel and Dianna were robbed!). But that's just me ...

I was surprised as well. I liked "Crash" a lot, but with all the late "Brokeback" buzz and once Ang Lee won "Best Director", I thought the cowboys had it won.
I used to love all the award shows but I'm really hating all the schtick that is supposed to amuse us. And then there's whatever goofy ideas the producers have for accompanying the "Best Song" nominees. Oy vey.
