Murakanopoly
I’m kind of in a rush to get some actual work done toady. I'm also a little low on original thought (admittedly, a bad combination), so here is some "not so original content", stolen from greg.org....

I really like some of Murakami's characters but I'm not even going to try to defend his depiction of women/girls. I just don't have it in me to take on Japanese culture, the world of anime, and misogyny right at the moment. I do think this version of the ubiquitous, endlessly reinterpreted Parker Brother's game is pretty hilarious. So is greg's lengthy description of the game:
"The Mori Art Museum and its adjacent mall are full of Murakami goods, of course, dolls, t-shirts, towels, stickers, but nothing sums up the uncritical celebration of megalomania and the unholy confluence of conscience-free art, urban planning, and commerce better than this: Roppongi Hills Monopoly, featuring Takashi Murakami's characters."
That's quite a sentence!

Food and Shopping
NYC is good for a lot of things, food and souvenirs not least among them. Here are some things purchased and also consumed while on the east coast:

Thirst quenching tea and yummy sushi
![]()
lots of emack ice cream
pizza from Pizza Palace on Ditmars Blvd
a sweet wallet in official "Toastkitten Blue"

and under the category of "The Finns are the new Italians", I went to the MoMA shop and got this happy little iittala Origo mug. iittala designed products and glasswear are pretty irresistable but they are also pricy. I will have to wait till my next paycheck before I can get the cereal bowl and small plate. But when this little ensemble is complete it will make for "guaranteed happy" coffee, tea and toast throughout the day!

We Are Happy to Serve You
If you watch Law and Order on any kind of regular basis you'll see coffee being enjoyed from one of these ubiquitous Greek-themed coffee cups. They're paper and just might remind you of Brad in a skirt (always a delight):
Anywho, New York artist George Skelcher seized on this design for a one-of-a-kind coin purse. It won't hold coffee but definitely accomodates two bits. The proceeds benefit NYC's homeless. There's some intriguing irony wrapped up in there somewhere. And maybe Brad too.
